Research Begins

Today I began research on the latest endeavour.

This time I'm planning an 8-min doc on depression. As someone who's experienced depression, it's always slightly bothered me when I watch documentaries on the matter, because something always doesn't feel right about them.

Typical documentaries focus more on the science of it all and student films try way too hard to be artsy, totally missing the point. So, I decided that this would be a good opportunity to create my own piece on the matter.

It will focus on the emotional experience rather than the science. Science is easy to understand, but what's hard is to put yourself into the shoes of someone else. And that's the challenge I'm facing myself with.

Anyway, like I said, today marked the commence of my research. I'm going 'round and talking to people who have suffered from depression, trying to get a more full idea of what it's like for everyone. Eventually this will all culminate to create a full day in the life of a fictitious character who will be the personification of all the people I interview.

I'll explain more as the project progresses. ...Or maybe I won't. Maybe it will be a surprise. Who knows...?
